WIC

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program is a federally funded nutrition program that supports pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five with healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthcare and community services. Applications may be completed by parents, guardians, foster parents, and other caregivers. Life changes such as having a baby, becoming a foster parent, or changes in income may affect eligibility—you may qualify now.

GETTING STARTED WITH WIC

Learn each step of the process, including eligibility, how to apply, what to bring to your first appointment, and what to expect during follow-up visits. Select a section below for more details.

Step 1: Check Eligibility

You may qualify if you:

  • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or recently had a baby
  • Have an infant, child under age 5, or foster child under age 5
  • Live in Washington, Kane, Beaver, Garfield, or Iron County
  • Meet household income guidelines

Families participating in Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF may qualify automatically, as well as households that qualify for free or reduced-cost school lunch.

Additional Income Details

  • Student loans are not counted as income for WIC
  • If student loans are your only income, contact our WIC clinic for documentation guidance
  • Only people who live in the household are counted in household size
  • Children who do not live in the home are not included in household size

Step 2: Apply for WIC

Call the office for your county to apply over the phone. Applying online will be available in September 2026.

Step 3: Before Appointment

  3. Confirm your selection and tap the blue Accept button

Child Attendance & Appointments

Plan for your visit to take about 30–45 minutes. Children must attend growth checks and certification appointments unless a medical provider determines they cannot leave the home.

Step 5: Follow-Up Visits

What to Expect

During each appointment, you will meet with one of our CPAs (usually a registered dietitian or registered nurse). Services may include:

  • Height and weight measurements
  • Iron screening for children and pregnant/postpartum women when needed
  • Personalized nutrition counseling and support
  • Help with special dietary needs and healthy food choices
  • Guidance on prenatal nutrition
  • Support with meal planning and shopping on a budget

WIC eCard

Benefits are issued on a card that works like a debit card and can be used to purchase approved foods at participating stores. Each family receives one card with benefits for all eligible participants.

Nutrition Education

Nutrition education is an important part of the WIC program and is offered throughout your time on WIC. Topics may include prenatal nutrition, infant feeding, introducing solid foods, meal planning, shopping on a budget, and managing children’s food preferences.

Education can be completed in-person at your WIC clinic during appointments or online through WIC Health.
