SIGNAGE REQUIREMENTS

  UTAH R392-302 POOL SIGNAGE REQUIREMENTS

Required pool safety signage in accordance with health department regulations.


GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

All signs must be clearly legible, visible from at least 10 feet, and posted in dressing rooms and at a location visible to bathers in the pool enclosure:

  • Take a cleansing shower before entering the pool.
  • Do not use the pool if you have had diarrhea within the last two weeks or have a water-transmissible communicable disease.
  • No running, rough play, or boisterous behavior (except supervised water sports).
  • Where no lifeguard service is provided, children 14 and under must have responsible adult supervision.
  • Maximum bather load must be clearly posted within the pool enclosure.
  • Closed pools must be clearly identified with signage.

SAFETY SIGNAGE

  • Emergency numbers (911) must be clearly posted.
  • Where no lifeguard is provided:
    • “Warning – No Lifeguard on Duty” (4-inch letters required)
    • “Bathers should not swim alone” (2-inch letters recommended)
    • “Children aged 14 years and under shall not use the pool without responsible adult supervision.” (2-inch letters recommended)
  • No Diving Areas: Must feature “No Diving” text (4 inches high, contrasting color) and/or the international icon on the deck/coping, spaced no more than 25 feet apart.
  • Entrapment Release Systems (SVRS): Post next to the alarm: “Do not use the pool if this alarm is activated” along with the pool operator’s phone number.

SPA POOLS

Must feature the heading “Caution” centered at the top, followed by:

  • Consult a physician before use if elderly, pregnant, taking medications, or having high blood pressure, heart disease, or diabetes.
  • Do not use if under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or a water-transmissible communicable disease.
  • Do not use the spa alone.
  • Limit sessions to a maximum of 15 minutes.
  • Children 14 and under must be supervised by an adult (18+).
  • Children 5 and under are strictly prohibited.
  • No running, horseplay, or unsafe activities.

COLD PLUNGE POOLS

Must feature the heading “Caution” centered at the top, followed by:

  • Risk of Cold Shock: Sudden temperature changes can cause impaired coordination, breathing control loss, muscle cramps, or unconsciousness. Consult a physician before immersion.
  • Consult a physician before use if elderly, pregnant, taking medications, or having heart disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure.
  • Do not use if under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or a water-transmissible communicable disease.
  • Do not use alone.
  • Limit sessions to a maximum of 15 minutes.
  • Children 14 and under are strictly prohibited.
  • No running, horseplay, or unsafe activities.

WATER SLIDES

Must feature the heading “Slide Instructions, Warnings, and Requirements” and include:

  • Manufacturer recommendations, proper riding positions, expected conduct, and dispatch/exiting procedures.
  • Riders must obey all lifeguard and attendant instructions.
  • Warn of slide speed, splash depth, and medical risks (pregnancy, heart, back, or musculoskeletal conditions).

INTERACTIVE WATER FEATURES

Must feature the heading “Caution” centered at the top, followed by:

  • No running on or around the feature.
  • Children 12 and under require adult supervision.
  • No food, drinks, glass, or pets allowed.
  • Diapers must be changed exclusively in restrooms.
