HEALTHCARE COALITION
The Southwest Utah Healthcare Preparedness Coalition (SWUHP) strengthens healthcare emergency preparedness across Washington, Iron, Beaver, Kane, and Garfield counties. Its mission is to foster planning, communication, and resource sharing for coordinated healthcare response. The coalition is funded through the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response Hospital Preparedness Program, which enhances patient care during emergencies and medical surge events.
MEMBERS AND STAKEHOLDERS
Membership includes hospitals, public health agencies, emergency medical services, emergency management, long-term care and skilled nursing facilities, community health centers, home health and hospice providers, specialty clinics (such as dialysis centers), and Access & Functional Needs partners. Additional stakeholders supporting coalition activities include emergency communication centers, law enforcement, Citizen Corps groups, elected officials, and amateur (HAM) radio operators.
COALITION INITIATIVES
Developing medical surge plans, assessing hazards and vulnerabilities, and coordinating resources and communications are core functions of the coalition. Members participate in quarterly communication drills and tabletop, functional, and full-scale exercises, along with other training to maintain operational readiness.
While training and exercises primarily support coalition members, certain programs such as Stop the Bleed are available to community groups, healthcare partners, and response agencies.
STOP THE BLEED TRAINING REQUEST
Community groups, healthcare partners, response agencies, and coalition members can request Stop the Bleed training kits or courses through the Southwest Utah Public Health Department. To request a kit or schedule a presentation for your group, complete the online request form.
